- ➤ MTHS held festive door decorating contests, pep rallies, and DECA competitions in December as students celebrated Homecoming with a musical chairs win. The school began its new semester with drama club practice on January 6 and basketball games on January 3 after winter break. Valpo Life
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Environmental groups have appealed IDEM’s permit renewals for BP Whiting Refinery and U.S. Steel’s Midwest Plant in Portage, urging the EPA to add stricter air pollution testing and monitoring that the permits—lacking Clean Air Act provisions—currently do not require, leaving communities at risk despite Gov. - ➤ Valpo Parks Director Kevin Nuppnau will leave his post at the end of January to join the Porter County Community Foundation, as announced by Mayor Jon Costas — he has led key projects since 2018. Assistant Director Tristan Leonhard will serve as Acting Director. Valpo Life
- ➤ Valparaiso City Services is adapting to severe early winter weather and over 21 inches of snow by using loaders and dump trucks on Monday, Jan. 5 while vacuum trucks will return in spring to collect remaining leaves. XROCK 103.9

- ➤ NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell visited potential Chicago Bears stadium sites in Hammond, Arlington Heights, and Gary this week before the upcoming playoff game.
