EDUCATION NEWS

  • Dane Brown, a former junior golf instructor, now teaches seventh grade math at Benjamin Franklin Middle School and follows in the footsteps of influential educators in his family.   • Morgan Township High School students took part in regional ISSMA music events on Feb. 7 — all 38 band members scored gold — and began Track and Field practices on Feb. 16.   • Mayor Jon Costas today named Tristan Leonhard as the new Parks Director for Valpo Parks. Leonhard, who served as Acting Director and helped drive major projects like the $10 million Parks RePLAY initiative, will lead operations for 23 park facilities and 31 miles of trails.  XROCK 103.9

  • Valpo head men's basketball coach Roger Powell Jr. was named a finalist for the Ben Jobe Award after guiding his team to its best MVC season. The award, honoring a top minority coach, will be announced in Indianapolis later.  Valpo Life
