  • Polish Eats opens in Valparaiso offering old-world imported Eastern European cuisine. The restaurant invites locals to sample its authentic menu + traditional flavors.  NWI Times
  • NIPSCO locked out 1,600 union members after contract talks failed to yield a new deal by the extended deadline— the company had offered raises and a bonus while the union raised concerns over increased contractor use and mandatory overtime.  Lakeshore Public Media

ECONOMY NEWS

  • NIPSCO announced an extension for disconnections until May 15, giving customers extra time to set up payment plans or apply for assistance programs. Customers should contact NIPSCO promptly to arrange payments before the new deadline takes effect.  PanoramaNOW
  • Ivy Tech Community College Valparaiso Campus added more than $84.8 million in income to the local area through its students, alumni & operations in the 2024-2025 school year, a Lightcast report said. The statewide impact reached over $4.8 billion and supported about 63,000 jobs.  XROCK 103.9

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Officials said 10 new miles of the Marquette Greenway will be built this year, adding to a planned 40 or more miles of completed trail by year's end. The project, largely complete from New Buffalo to Michiana Shores, will eventually link local open spaces (with further extensions toward South Haven underway).  Lakeshore Public Media

HEALTH NEWS

  • Celina Weatherwax was named Executive Director of the Methodist Hospitals Foundation and will lead efforts to boost fundraising and community health. She is preparing for the annual Fundraising Gala (June 13) and Golf Outing (Sept. 28) to support hospital programs in the region.  NWI.LIFE
  • Franciscan Health will present the next Fan Out Diabetes workshops — free two-day programs that provide diabetes education and screenings — at Michigan City's Salvation Army venue; the sessions will occur at 12:30 p.m. on Sunday, April 26 and Sunday, May 31 and participants need not be congregation members.  Valpo Life
