CRIME NEWS

  • A boy who had been missing from Valparaiso since mid-March was located today and police said he is safe with more details to come.  NWI Times

CULTURE NEWS

  • Stripes, a 20 year old Bengal tiger at the Washington Park Zoo, was euthanized after his health rapidly declined from kidney disease and arthritis—tests showed he also suffered from kidney failure, lymphedema, and cancer.  Valpo Life
  • Bishop Noll Institute senior Maisie Wragg will portray Jo March in the school's production of Little Women from April 10th to 13th. Showtimes are at 7 p.m. on Thursday through Saturday and 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, and tickets cost $10 (available at the door or online).  NWI.LIFE

  • The City of Valparaiso invites youth to join the Mayor’s Youth Council for the 2025-26 school year—students entering their junior year are asked to apply by May 30. Mayor Jon Costas will host an information session on April 22 at 2:45 p.m. at Valparaiso High School while the council will be sworn in on Aug. 11.  Valpo Life
  • The City of Valparaiso invites youth to apply for the Mayor’s Youth Council to build leadership skills and learn about city government by May 30. Mayor Jon Costas will host an info session at Valparaiso High School on April 22 at 2:45 p.m.—the council members, aged 18-22, will be sworn in on Aug. 11 and meet monthly during the school year.  NWI.LIFE
  • Courtney Kvachkoff, a Crown Point native, became the new controller at the Northwest Indiana Regional Development Authority in December and now manages funds for projects like the Transit Development Districts — which support new train stations and road improvements. She brings nearly 10 years of finance experience and will focus on projects in Gary and Michigan City that boost local growth.  NWI.LIFE
