  • Valparaiso will host a Neighborhood Workshop on Monday, April 21 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Forest Park Welter Room (1155 Sheffield Dr.) where neighborhood representatives will hear Mayor Jon Costas and learn about the rePLAY initiative (including discussion on a New Neighbor Guide).  Valpo Life

  • Washington Township Middle School Team Black won the 20th Annual Washington Township Middle School Academic Invitational on April 5 by defeating Ben Franklin Green 90-69 — the team earned a first-place finish in Social Studies and second places in Science and English.  Valpo Life

  • BP is providing $1.5 million for a dune and swale restoration project along Lake Michigan — the funding will help restore coastal habitats and reduce erosion later this year.  NWI Times

  • Everwise Credit Union's Member Financial Wellness Director Jeff Sobieralski outlined five key steps to help members manage money better—set clear financial goals, plan spending, build an emergency fund, automate savings, and learn financial basics.   • In Porter, the Porter County Search and Rescue Team, Porter Fire, and Indiana Dunes National Park Law Enforcement Rangers held an interagency drill near the Dunes Learning Center on April 6 to practice locating missing visitors with autism—twenty responders took part.  Z107.1

HEALTH NEWS

  • Due to measles returning, the Lake County Health Department is offering new vaccine clinics. Mobile clinics run today from 2:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the Hammond Sportsplex—another session will be held on April 15 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at a community center in Merrillville and daily walk-in clinics are available from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the health department office on 93rd in Crown Point.  Lakeshore Public Media
