  • Valparaiso residents can drop in to play pickleball at the Jean Shepherd Center from Noon-5pm Monday through Friday. The center is two minutes off the I80/94E Kennedy Avenue North Exit—making it an easy option for local players.  Valpo Life
  • Lerner & Rowe Injury Attorneys has partnered with Humane Indiana to support over 4,000 animals each year by funding affordable veterinary care and pet food assistance in Northwest Indiana & sponsoring the sold-out Heart of Rock and Roll Gala that raised over $300,000.   • On April 9, Ivy Tech Valparaiso held a ribbon-cutting to mark the expansion of its welding program—upgrading the lab with new tools and dual enrollment that lets high school students earn college credits and safety certifications. The improvements give students a path to jobs paying $25 to $45 an hour while meeting local industry needs.  Valpo Life
  • Valparaiso University announced new and updated academic programs in its 2025—2026 catalog that include a Secondary Education minor for licensure to teach grades 5 to 12, a Project Management minor, a Human Resources minor, and a Cyber Security graduate certificate. The catalog also features an updated Astronomy major with concentrations in Space Science, Public Science, and Astrophysics, as well as a revised Integrated Public Health and Healthcare Leadership major aimed at preparing graduates for management roles in healthcare and public service.  Valpo Life
  • Purdue University Northwest will host two free open house sessions to help prospective students and families learn about campus life and college costs this spring. The Westville event will run from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on April 24 (1401 S. U.S. 421) and the Hammond event will begin at 8:30 a.m. on April 26 (2200 169th Street) where admissions and financial aid professionals will answer questions and waive application fees.  Valpo Life

  • Franciscan Health Michigan City will host a perinatal memorial service called Remembering Our Babies from 1-2 p.m. on April 26+ at St. Stanislaus Catholic Cemetery to support families who have lost a pregnancy or newborn.
