CULTURE NEWS

  • A World War II exhibit is set to display at Stagecoach Inn in Hebron this weekend. The event highlights an important era for visitors.  NWI Times

ECONOMY NEWS

  • NIPSCO has kept protections in place for customers by preventing service disconnections due to nonpayment through May 15 & will soon launch a new electric bill assistance program while expanding in-person support events to ease lingering winter energy bill challenges.  NWI.LIFE

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Julie Teixeira, a dedicated educator with 40 years of experience at Washington Township Middle/High School (WTM/H), teaches math, science and leads hands-on STEM projects including Project Lead the Way today. She mentors new teachers and stresses respect so students can apply what they learn in class.  Valpo Life
  • Washington Township Middle School’s Science Team won the Indiana Academic Super Bowl Jr. Division Class 4 State Championship by scoring 23 out of 25 on the test, marking its 12th championship and adding to the school’s record of 27 state titles, while the Social Studies Team finished as runner-up.  Valpo Life
  • Local PNW graduate Aliana Quinones blended English, Spanish and Environmental Science — leading a sustainability research project — and plans to serve the community after graduation.  NWI Times
  • IU Northwest psychology professor Maureen Rutherford received the prestigious Herman Frederic Lieber Memorial Award for classroom impact and mentoring students (only 58 have earned this honor since 1960).  Valpo Life

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Berglund Construction completed restoration of three historic sites at Indiana Dunes National Park, including Good Fellow Club Youth Camp Lodge, Bailly Homestead and the House of Tomorrow — all in partnership with G-Force Construction Services. Renovations included rehabilitation and stabilization to restore the sites for community use.  NWI.LIFE

SPORTS NEWS

  • Valparaiso University athletics maintained academic excellence as NCAA APR data released on May 6 showed four sports scored perfect multi-year scores of 1000 and 11 programs earned perfect single-year marks for 2024-25 (five teams improved from last year).  Valpo Life
  • Greg Braggs Jr. grew from bricklaying and local sports reporting to hosting the CHGO Bears Podcast, crediting his community and family (especially his mom and wife) for his success. He now supports local fans and hopes the Bears will advance to the Super Bowl in the future.  NWI.LIFE

  • Annual Memorial Day Service May 25 at 11 a.m. at Graceland Cemetery

    Graceland Cemetery will host its annual Memorial Day Service on Monday, May 25, 2026, at 11 a.m. at Valor Hill, honoring all who have served with a special tribute to veterans laid to rest at Graceland over the past year. Conducted by American Legion Post 94, the free public ceremony will include the reading of each veteran’s name and will move indoors to the mausoleum in the event of rain.
