COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Hundreds gathered at Thomas Jefferson Middle School for the annual Color Fun Run where families raced a 1.5-mile course, enjoyed a bouncing house, face painting, and live DJ music. Organized by the Mayor’s Youth Council (with 40 student volunteers) and the Parks Department, the event brought affordable fun to the community.  Valpo Life
  • Bartholomew Funeral Home in Valparaiso is urging residents to draft a will or trust to ease legal processes during hard times. Office manager Kyle Newhard said planning ahead helps prevent delays and protects families from costly probate.  Valpo Life

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Valparaiso High School hosted an AP/IB Art Show on April 9-10, celebrated Mr. VHS and Future Educators on May 4, and now prepares for AP tests until May 15, a Boat Regatta on May 19, and end-of-year events on May 28 (a busy finish for students and staff).  Valpo Life

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • IDEM introduced a new Local Air Quality Advisory today to warn residents about brief spikes in unhealthy air quality that may affect sensitive groups, especially during early morning hours. The advisory will work with the current Air Quality Action Day notifications to keep Hoosiers informed.  Z107.1

  • Annual Memorial Day Service May 25 at 11 a.m. at Graceland Cemetery

    Graceland Cemetery will host its annual Memorial Day Service on Monday, May 25, 2026, at 11 a.m. at Valor Hill, honoring all who have served with a special tribute to veterans laid to rest at Graceland over the past year. Conducted by American Legion Post 94, the free public ceremony will include the reading of each veteran’s name and will move indoors to the mausoleum in the event of rain.
