The Recycling and Waste Reduction District of Porter County will host the Fix-It Fair at Valparaiso Public Library on Saturday, June 14 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.—volunteers will offer free repair services for items like small appliances, jewelry, and electronics while attendees must register in advance and bring any needed spare parts.

Economic development advocates support a $2 billion data center proposal in Union Township near Wheeler High School as QTS Data Centers — a suburban Kansas City firm — plans to build on the 800-acre Johnson Farm site to create up to 175 jobs and add $10 million in tax revenue.

Local residents oppose the project — citing concerns over noise, health risks and loss of rural character — and their worries echo previous rejections of similar proposals in the county.
