- ➤ The Kankakee Valley REMC Junior Board invites community members to a Day of Community Giving on Saturday, May 30 at Porter County Fairgrounds. The free event features a car show (10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.) and a cornhole tournament (11 a.m.) to support the Play for Jake Foundation. Valpo Life
- ➤ Holly Wells has built a creative life by serving patients at Valparaiso Family Dentistry and writing books (she published All My Exes) that share her journey. - ➤ The Regional Streeters Car Club will host the annual Cobe Cup Car Cruise on Saturday, May 23. Registration runs from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Lake County Fairgrounds in Crown Point and the car cruise begins at noon along a route through Crown Point, Lowell and Cedar Lake that echoes the historic 1909 race. - ➤ The Combat #1 Flying Contest & RC Airplane Swap Meet occurs Memorial Weekend at Rainford Field (south of Highway 130 in Wheeler) with RC combat competitions, a swap meet for planes and parts, trainer flights at 11:30 AM, and onsite food; pilots pay $15 while spectators enjoy free admission. - ➤ Lake Central students picked up their colorful 300-page yearbooks on May 14 in the Mainstreet hallway + seniors will celebrate graduation on June 3 with planned activities including breakfast, class photos and ceremony practice. NWI.LIFE
- ➤ Purdue University Northwest awarded seed funding at its annual Big Sell held at the CMEC today. Winners GlucoCare, Low Angle, and The ANT Tool earned $10,000, $3,000, and $1,000 respectively, showcasing community entrepreneurs & connecting student teams with local startup support. NWI.LIFE

Annual Memorial Day Service May 25 at 11 a.m. at Graceland Cemetery
Graceland Cemetery will host its annual Memorial Day Service on Monday, May 25, 2026, at 11 a.m. at Valor Hill, honoring all who have served with a special tribute to veterans laid to rest at Graceland over the past year. Conducted by American Legion Post 94, the free public ceremony will include the reading of each veteran’s name and will move indoors to the mausoleum in the event of rain.
