- ➤ Larry Brechner of Lakeshore Public Media said that federal funding cuts and state defunding forced the station to cut local programs and warned the measures could lead to closures nationwide — Congress stripped over $1 billion from NPR and PBS, leaving rural stations with fewer funds to buy national shows. The cuts have already led to layoffs and a reduction in locally produced programming, and stations face a tough future without significant financial support. NWI Times
