COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Valpo Parks is upgrading Creekside Golf Course and Training Center and Forest Park Golf Course to improve operations and raise the quality of play. The improvements include new cart paths, year-round simulators, a new irrigation system for Forest Park in Spring and a new Club Car fleet—projects that will continue from this year into next.  Valpo Life
  • Local running company Extra Mile held a series of one-mile races near the Valpo YMCA where runners tested new shoes from brands like HOKA — Asics to find the best fit. High school athletes will join the Catch Your Time race on August 6 at 5 p.m. while former officer Jeff Biggs now teaches criminal justice at Wheeler High.  Valpo Life

  • The Indiana Chamber of Commerce is dropping Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield from its ChamberCare Health Alliance plan because new provider SIHO offers lower costs and local service—this change will affect 1,500 small businesses and 12,500 employees starting Oct. 1. The move comes after months-long negotiations seeking a more cost-effective solution for Hoosier employers.  NWI Times

  • On Wednesday, the Valparaiso School Board approved two bonds totaling $23 million + refinanced existing bonds while swearing in its newest member.  NWI Times

  • County health officials confirmed that West Nile virus was found in local mosquitos on Thursday—prompting plans for increased testing—and urged residents to stay informed.  NWI Times

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • Valparaiso will host Brewski Fest at the Amphitheater on August 22 at 4:30 p.m.—the festival features retro beers such as Old Style, Schiltz, Hamms, PBR, and Strohs. The event will also include live music by CRAWPUPPIES and food trucks from Rudys BBQ Shack and Rolling Stone Baker.  PanoramaNOW
