COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Valpo Car Show, Swap Meet & Motorcycle Show will be held Sunday, August 24 from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Porter County Fairgrounds on Division Rd. in Valparaiso—registration for cars starts at 8:00 a.m. for $5 while spectators pay $5 and swap spaces cost $20; the event will also offer food, door prizes and over 50 awards including Best Paint, Best Engine and Best in Show.  PanoramaNOW
  • The Lakes of Valparaiso held its annual Resident BBQ Pool Bash on August 2, where residents and their families enjoyed competitive games and raffles that celebrated the end of summer — the event was supported by donations from local businesses.  NWI.LIFE

BUSINESS NEWS

  • The South Shore Line hit nearly 90% on-time runs after a $1.6 billion upgrade that added 14 weekday trains and new weekend service. Officials said the double track and fresh schedule—built to cut delays—help local riders get to work and events on time.  Valpo Life
  • Lori K Bath opened her new corporate headquarters and showroom in Valparaiso, offering a modern space for customers to view products and learn about future initiatives — the facility is now open to serve the community.  NWI Times

CULTURE NEWS

  • Fourth Street Theater in Chesterton selected eight 10-Minute Plays from over 300 entries for its upcoming festival. The plays will be performed August 22—24 and August 28—31 at 8:00 p.m. on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays and at 3:00 p.m. on Sundays.  PanoramaNOW

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Hundreds of students lined up on Thursday at Purdue University Northwest to pick up backpacks and school supplies for the upcoming school year—this free giveaway helped families get ready for classes.  NWI Times

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Congressman Mrvan sent a letter asking the USPS why it chose to close the Winfield CPU and whether it gathered local stakeholder input (raising concerns about the impact on wait times at Leroy and Boone Grove postal facilities).  NWI Times
  • The City of Valparaiso has begun a sewer and stormwater project — supported by a $960,000 EPA grant and Congressman Frank Mrvan — that will lower downtown flooding and improve stormwater flow along Weston Street. Engineering Director Max Rehlander leads planning as the design is set to finish by the end of 2025 and construction will start in March 2026.  City of Valparaiso
