- ➤ St. John Police Detective Aaron Amptmeyer died after a medical emergency while playing hockey in a men's league Friday night. Loved ones remembered him as a devoted father and hero (his memorial stands outside the police department) and services are planned for next week. ABC 7
- ➤ On August 9, thousands watched the Gary Air Show at Marquette Park Beach in Gary as South Shore CVA partnered with the City of Gary and Hard Rock Casino Northern Indiana—organizations like Boeing, BP, and Purdue University Northwest helped support the day. The event featured stunts by the Air Force Thunderbirds and a tandem parachute jump with DJ K. Caesareven while food trucks and a beer garden added to the festive community spirit. Valpo Life
