  • United Way Northwest Indiana and Goodwill of Michiana’s Nurse-Family Partnership were awarded a $50,000 grant to launch Health 2 Home in Porter County—this program will offer in-home nurse visits, screenings and support to help at-risk families improve maternal and child health.  Valpo Life

CRIME NEWS

  • A police officer who found marijuana near a parked car on Saturday entered a residence on McCord Road and arrested a woman aged 52 for neglect and a man aged 20 for possession after finding unsanitary conditions with two neglected dogs—conditions marked by piles of trash and waste.  Lakeshore Public Media

EDUCATION NEWS

  • GreatNews.Life founder Chris Mahlmann and executive director Jenny Craig-Brown will mark the new school year by discussing summer events and trends from Reddit — setting a positive tone for upcoming classes.  Valpo Life
  • Kinder lernen Deutsch is a program for children in grades 2-4 taught at the Kade-Duesenberg German House and Cultural Center on the Valparaiso University campus. Classes meet Tuesday afternoons from 4-5 p.m. starting September 23 and run until February — the full program costs $75 and welcomes both new and experienced learners.  Valpo Life

  • Practice Manager Dana Gibson has led Associated Pediatricians for 21 years—guiding staff and organizing community events that support children’s health with tough business decisions.
