- ➤ Bonnie Zimmer is an artist who uses natural materials from her 20-acre farmhouse near Rensselaer to create both serious art for exhibitions and fun wearable pieces. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Valparaiso native Elizabeth Seifert won a gold medal in advertising design at the National SkillsUSA Conference in Atlanta and said the award validated her skills despite some last-minute challenges. She is heading into her senior year at Washington Township High School and will apply to the Savannah College of Art and Design—she also may start a bakery if design does not work out. Valpo Life
- ➤ IU Northwest professor Jenny Fisher received the 2025 E. Kika De La Garza Science Fellowship with the USDA—she used her time in Washington D.C. and Columbus to build research connections that may lead to local projects on water quality and student opportunities. She plans to work with local farmers and the Soil and Water Conservation District to expand these efforts. Valpo Life
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Valparaiso School Board voted on Monday to advance a $105 million budget proposal for the district, and the plan will be presented to the City Council next month. NWI Times
