ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • On Saturday, a train derailed in Valpo when a crew stopped to avoid a person on the tracks—no injuries were reported and crossings remain blocked but are expected to clear by Sunday evening.  NWI Times
  • Valparaiso police said a train with many cars derailed on Saturday, September 6 while assisting Fort Wayne to Chicago Railroad and reported that the empty vehicle haulers stayed upright — several crossings including Greenwich, Axe, Franklin, Washington, Lafayette, and Napoleon are temporarily closed as an investigation continues.  Indiana 105
  • Late Saturday night on September 6, 2025, Valparaiso police assisted the Fort Wayne to Chicago Railroad with a multi-car train derailment that left empty vehicles upright—several railroad crossings including Greenwich, Axe, Franklin, Washington, Lafayette and Napoleon streets were temporarily closed while motorists were advised to use Joliet Street to connect downtown with US 30 and officials reported no known threat to public safety.  XROCK 103.9
  • On Saturday, September 6, Valparaiso Police reported a multi-car train derailment of empty vehicle haulers along a local track that led to temporary closures at six crossings, an ongoing investigation, and a detour advising motorists to use Joliet Street — with no known threat to public safety.  Z107.1
