CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ The La Porte County Symphony Orchestra announced that the 20th Annual Hoosier Star vocal competition will be held on September 13 at the La Porte Civic Auditorium. Nine previous winners will compete for the title Hoosier Star of Stars and a cash prize as the fundraiser event will feature performances accompanied by the Symphony under Dr. Carolyn Watson's baton. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The East Porter County School Board voted Monday night to censure board member Natalie Bowersock — who filed a lawsuit against the district last month. The decision came after her legal action and marks a clear response by the board. NWI Times
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Valparaiso City Services resumed unidirectional flushing of water mains on September 10 across the south side to improve water quality and fire protection, operating mostly from 7 am—4 pm with some overnight work; the four-week program may cause discolored water and customers are advised to run cold water if needed. - ➤ INDOT will host winter seasonal hiring events on September 23 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at several state sites and on October 7 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. in the Southeast district. The events will include on-site interviews for full-time highway maintenance and on-call snowplow positions from November through early April—INDOT team members will answer questions—to help candidates learn about job opportunities.
