- ➤ The 47th Annual Fall Harvest Festival—set for September 27-28—will be held by the Northern Indiana Historical Power Association in partnership with Cedar Lake Farmers Market. Visitors will see antique tractors, engines and live demonstrations of vintage machinery while enjoying a flea market and craft fair. PanoramaNOW
- ➤ On October 4, Porter County will host its first Special Olympics fundraising event at MAAC Heroes’ Hangout4203 Montdale Dr in Valparaiso—community teams of 10 will raise $750 per team with a fire truck pull challenge to win a special prize and all proceeds will support Porter County Special Olympics. - ➤ The Porter County Conservation Club will host a Take A Kid Fishing event tomorrow from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at 320 N. 150 W in Valparaiso — fishing poles, bait, free food, and prizes for kids are available while supplies last — and no fishing license is needed. PanoramaNOW
- ➤ Yesterday, on the anniversary of September 11, 2001, the Valparaiso Police Department, Fire Department, and Porter County Sheriff’s Department held a Memorial Stair Climb that honored first responders who sacrificed their lives—each step standing for their bravery. The event acknowledged the heroism of 343 firefighters, 60 law enforcement officers, and other emergency personnel. NWI.LIFE

- ➤ The Northwest Indiana Regional Development Authority board approved the creation of a nonprofit subsidiary today to help fix up old, unused properties—RDA will invest $5 million in seed funding to encourage private development and return these sites to the tax rolls. NWI.LIFE
- ➤ Z2 Productions, One World Digital, LLC, and White Lodging announced the debut of the documentary film “Bruce: Begin with the End in Mind” narrated by Mike Rowe, which tells Bruce White’s entrepreneurial story and shows how he built White Lodging. The free 40-minute film is available on White Lodging’s website and will soon appear on other streaming platforms—proceeds support education initiatives in Northwest Indiana. NWI.LIFE

- ➤ The Valparaiso Area Record Show will be held on September 14th from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., where vendors and collectors will gather in Valparaiso to buy and trade LPs, 45s, CDs and DVDs—hosted by Midwest Music Marketplace. PanoramaNOW
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Indiana University Northwest reported its headcount increased by 7.2% to 3,260 students this fall and credit hours rose by 8.8% to 38,597—marking the highest increase among IU campuses. Full-time enrollment also increased by 8.6% as students chose larger course loads. NWI.LIFE

- ➤ The Valparaiso Fire Department invites residents in the city and Center Township to request free smoke and carbon monoxide alarms through its Out To Alarm Valpo program, which has already visited 268 homes & installed hundreds of alarms to help protect families.
