BUSINESS NEWS

  • Costco has recalled its Kirkland Signature Prosecco because the bottles could shatter—without warning. Customers who bought bottles between April 25 and August 26 in Indiana and other states are told to wrap them for safe disposal—and to return their recall letter for a full refund.  ABC 7

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Ceramic and Found Object Art Barn School of Art announced a new regional exhibition titled "Vanishing Point"—set to run from September 30 to October 30—to raise awareness about endangered native species. The program includes a free artists' reception on October 3 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. and a panel discussion on October 26 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. for community members to learn about the artists' work.  NWI.LIFE
  • Local writer Heather Curlee Novak, who moved from South Bend, writes stories that capture Valpo’s charm and local places. She works at AVIVA Valparaiso and recently won awards for her books—her work inspires local readers to explore the town.  Valpo Life

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Bishop Noll Institute started its school year on August 21 with 750 students and 13 new staff members+students took part in painting parking spots and celebrating sports wins. The school will hold homecoming on September 20 and stage theater shows in October and November.  NWI.LIFE
  • Purdue Extension Community Development provides Porter County residents with digital skills lessons, free Senior Planet technology training, and a volunteer digital ambassador program, with plans to add an AI program soon. Gina Avila, the community development educator (serving since 2022), said the programs bridge Purdue University research and county government to help communities grow (Porter County).  Valpo Life
  • Andrean High School is celebrating its new tennis courts—which hosted the Boys Tennis team's first home match in two years on September 9—even though the team did not win. The school will hold its annual Homecoming Dance on September 20 after the football game, and new Boys Soccer head coach Jason Novak alongside senior transfer Carter Knueppel are set to boost the athletic programs.  NWI.LIFE

  • Today, the City of Valparaiso and Canadian National Railway host See Tracks? Think Train Week to raise rail safety awareness and announce plans for improvements at crossings such as a new pedestrian walkway at Silhavy Road — officials say drivers and pedestrians should slow down and stay alert near train tracks.  City of Valparaiso

HEALTH NEWS

  • Northwest Health — Porter recognized outstanding staff by naming Kimberly Sullivan as Employee of the Year, Kris Springman as Clinical Leader, and Kim Land as Non-Clinical Manager of the Year — the awards honor those nominated by peers for exceptional performance and care.  NWI.LIFE
  • The American Red Cross is teaming up with PEANUTS in a blood drive campaign running from August 29 until September 21 that offers donors a mystery bag with one of four special T-shirt designs—blood drives are set up in Valparaiso and nearby areas. The campaign comes as past weather disruptions canceled drives that left over 40,000 donations uncollected.  Z107.1
  • Porter County Health Department will host its inaugural Community Baby Shower on October 17 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Porter County Community Foundation Building on Calumet Avenue—offering expecting parents and families valuable resources, education, and giveaways.  XROCK 103.9

SPORTS NEWS

  • Dylan Gluszek, owner of Rising Star Martial Arts in Highland who began his passion for the sport at age 5, now teaches classes while balancing work at a local daycare and concert venue. He opened the new studio in late July with classes starting in early September and invites new students to try a trial class—demonstrating his commitment to growing the local martial arts community.  NWI.LIFE
