  • GreatNews.Life will host the 10th annual Good Life Awards at Uptown Social on November 19—tickets, tables and sponsorship opportunities are available online to honor local individuals known for their good deeds.  Valpo Life
  • CoAction is delivering healthy meals, fresh produce and nutrition education to seniors across Northwest Indiana to fight hunger and reduce isolation. The program has given nearly 67,870 congregate meals and 96,665 home-delivered meals to seniors who receive one meal per day five days a week—helping improve access to nutritious food.  Valpo Life

  • BJ's Wholesale Club will open a store in Portage—this new location will provide a wide range of products and boost local shopping options.  NWI Times
  • Team Chevy on 30 has hired four new service department staff and now offers extended hours and DOT inspections for work vehicles—using a 28-point inspection with video recordings to guide repairs and boost customer care.   • Board & Brush Valparaiso offers art workshops—private parties and mobile events—to help locals create custom wood decor with all tools provided. Owner Cortney Bower runs the studio and schedules sessions year-round that welcome people of every age.  Valpo Life
  • On September 24th, Journeyman’s American Factory held its first Cruise-In Night, drawing community interest with classic cars, live music & panel discussions on sustainable farming as guests explored vehicles from different eras. Organizers said they will hold two more events on October 8th and October 22nd with support from sponsors like Studebaker National Museum and Janus Motorcycles.  NWI.LIFE

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Recycling and Waste Reduction District of Porter County will host its last hazardous waste and tire collection of the season on Saturday, October 11 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Porter County Expo Center at 215 E Division Road in Valparaiso — residents should enter through Gate 3 and may drop off household hazardous materials and up to four tires under 20 inches free of charge.  Lakeshore Public Media
  • A naturalist will speak at Northwest Indiana Green Drinks about the fall migration of birds—sharing insights on seasonal bird movements. The talk will offer local residents useful information on how birds change their routes in the fall.  NWI Times

  • Powers Health Medical Group recently welcomed six new physicians in cardiology, interventional pulmonology, neurology, orthopedic surgery and pediatrics who are now accepting new patients—each is affiliated with local hospitals to help expand care.  Valpo Life
