- ➤ On November 7, Valpo Parks Foundation held its 22nd annual Veterans Day Ceremony at the Service Memorial at Foundation Meadows Park—honoring veterans by reading names from the Duty & Sacrifice Wall. - ➤ Restaurants, coffee shops & other businesses across Northwest Indiana are set to honor veterans Tuesday by offering free meals, coffee, and special discounts. NWI Times
- ➤ Lake County's Food Bank of Northwest Indiana launched an Emergency Response Fund to fight growing food insecurity by adding four mobile market distributions to the 19 planned this month and strengthening local pantries in Lake and Porter counties. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The Indiana Court of Appeals award-winning civics education program, Appeals on Wheels, stopped at Chesterton High School and Valparaiso High School this week where judges heard oral arguments and answered public questions—while the program will travel to Notre Dame Law School on November 10 with a new panel that includes Judge Nancy Vaidik, Judge Melissa May, and Judge Elizabeth Tavitas. - ➤ The City of Valparaiso hosted an open house on November 5 at City Hall to show residents new options for the Eastside Master Plan while Browning Day worked with local officials after the 2023 sports park cancellation — residents may review the plans online and submit feedback until December 5. - ➤ South Shore Line announced that veterans and active-duty military began riding free on trains from November 7 and can continue to ride free until Tuesday, November 11 in honor of Veterans Day. The advisory says riders must inform train personnel of their status—no identification is needed— and trains will run on a regular weekday schedule on November 11. Z107.1
