COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Canadian Pacific Kansas City Holiday Train will travel through northwest Indiana this weekend—its brightly decorated railcars and music set to support food bank donations. It is scheduled to reach La Porte just after 3 a.m. Central Time and downtown Chesterton a little after 3:30 a.m.  Indiana 105
  • Before Thanksgiving, Lerner & Rowe Injury Attorneys provided 750 free meal bags at the Dean and Barbara White Community Center that included mashed potatoes, stuffing, gravy, corn, green beans, and a $25 gift card to Strack & Van Til for local families to create a classic holiday meal. The event also connected community members with vital resources through support from partner nonprofits.  Valpo Life
  • The Canadian Pacific Kansas City—Holiday Train will pass through northwest Indiana tomorrow during early morning hours on its way to northeast Illinois while its brightly decorated railcars display lights and music. The train is expected to reach La Porte shortly after 3 a.m. CT and downtown Chesterton a little after 3:30 a.m. as it continues its annual journey to raise funds and collect food for local food banks.  Z107.1

  • An Indiana University Northwest professor said Northwest Indiana’s economy is outperforming the rest of the country—his comments highlight the region’s market strength.  NWI Times

HEALTH NEWS

  • Powers Health and Northwest Cancer Centers opened a 71,000-square-foot Cancer Care Center on Broadway in Crown Point on November 17 that offers advanced testing, clinical trials and integrative oncology care including a healing garden. The center houses Powers Health on the first floor, Northwest Cancer Centers on the second and shared space on the third — bringing many services together for local residents — to improve access to cancer treatment.  Indiana 105
  • CoAction launched its first Age Well Symposium & Caregiver Expo to connect older adults, caregivers, and local care providers at an event center in Valparaiso.
