  • Don Quijote Restaurant hosted the inaugural Legacy Builders Society reception and open house for Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater NWI as restaurant owners Carlos Rivero & Elena Jambrina welcomed donors, volunteers and community members to mark a new giving society designed to support local youth.  Valpo Life
  • Veteran James 'Jim' Spanopoulos, a Purdue alum who served as a Navy Officer in Vietnam, now volunteers at St. Agnes Parish in Valparaiso (helping Alzheimer patients) and honors the memory of 24 comrades who never returned home.  NWI.LIFE
  • Jack and Cindy Strack donated $1 million on Monday, Nov. 24 to Legacy Foundation, bringing their total to $5 million over the last 18 months. Their generosity supports local nonprofits including the Food Bank + Boys + Girls Clubs, Operation Charlie Bravo, and TradeWinds.  NWI.LIFE
  • The Shared Table Food Pantry at Opportunity Enterprises feeds over 750 individuals while training residents with special needs in retail skills, including cashiering + customer service. The pantry opens on Fridays and aims to build a local talent pool for nearby grocery stores.  ABC 7

  • On Dec. 3, Horizon Bank detailed its Advisor Intelligence—a tool that uses AI to support business decisions—when Jenny Craig-Brown and Market President John Freyek spoke with GreatNews.Life. The bank said the tool sets it apart from competitors.  NWI.LIFE
  • NIPSCO welcomed Spencer Summers as Economic Development Manager on Dec. 3; he will boost business growth in the region. Summers, formerly with the Northwest Indiana Forum and the Courts of Northwest Indiana in Valparaiso, earned an MBA from Purdue University Northwest and was named a 20 Under 40 finalist.  Valpo Life
  • Mt. Olive Mediterranean Grill is now open along U.S. 30 in Dyer and serves Mediterranean dishes with fresh ingredients (a new local favorite) for diners today.  NWI Times

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Carlos Rivero and Elena Jambrina have been named Good Neighbors for 2025 by the City of Valparaiso, recognizing their long-standing support for education and nonprofit organizations through their Don Quijote Restaurant since 1985. HEALTH NEWS

  • Northwest Health – Porter's cardiologist Maya Kommineni says new ACC/AHA guidelines will help manage blood pressure using the PREVENT equation that drops race as a risk factor and recommends earlier medicine when needed. The guidelines also urge annual vaccines and lifestyle changes, including reduced alcohol, to protect heart health.  Valpo Life

  • South Shore CVA announced a title partnership with Albanese Confectionery for the Candy Bowl. The NCAA Division II bowl will begin at 1:05 p.m. CT on Saturday, Dec. 6 at Hobart High School’s Brickyard Stadium and feature Upper Iowa University versus Hillsdale College — its sixth postseason edition.  NWI.LIFE
