  • KV REMC Junior Board of Directors will host a Suicide Prevention Fun 5K Run/Walk on May 24 at Sunset Hill Farm Park in Valparaiso—registration starts at 9:00 a.m. and the run begins at 10:00 a.m. Participants will pay $20 per person—proceeds will benefit the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention-Indiana Chapter.  NWI.LIFE

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • At the March 24 city council meeting the council unanimously approved a resolution recommending a downtown liquor license for Cafe Farina, which will move to 55 S. Franklin and open by June with 30 employees working every day — the council also passed an ordinance setting responsible business practice requirements for projects seeking economic tax incentives by raising the qualifying value from $150,000 to $350,000, though Mayor Costas may veto it within ten days.  PanoramaNOW
  • Valparaiso has announced 19 Neighborhood Improvement Grants totaling over $167,000 for 2025—funding projects like pollinator gardens, public art sculptures, neighborhood gathering spaces and tree plantings across several city areas.   • Tiffany Bozovich, told by a surgeon she would never run again after multiple knee injuries and four surgeries, later became a chiropractor focused on helping local high school athletes in Chesterton—her comeback included running a marathon that underscored her determination.
